11/3/06 - Friday: "Been a While"

It's been some time since my last update, and I've been quite busy with school lately. In the mean time, I have not made much progress on my CS:S map, though I did in fact work on it last weekend. As far as the comic, I'm considering starting a new webcomic from scratch. It will take a while for me to come up with some new ideas and so forth. I was pondering getting a new domain name as well, so yes I really mean starting from scratch. I noticed my domain name has a few months left here, so I if I get a new domain I'll try to let everyone know what it is.

Also, you can more or less disregard the last news post. I'm much too busy with school to do work on the side. However, I will be looking for internships sometime in the next summer or two.

9/29/06 - Friday: "Freelancer"

No, this is not about the game "Freelancer". I just wanted to take this small news-post (or "blog", or whatever you'd like to call it) to say that I am interested in doing some paid-for freelance artwork, or writing, or designing, or making a comic or - well - whatever!

If you want to hire me for a project, send me an e-mail describing it briefly, and we'll have a chat later and see what we can work out. Most likely we will just talk over some details and such, but if it fits the bill and I have the right skill-set for it, I may be able to work on it - maybe even for a long time. As I am currently in school I can't guarantee constant production of anything, but we can do a pay-per-work type deal. I'm thinking my services would best be used for another website, to make some more content for them.

I am also not sure whether I want to change my major or just drop-out as I am realizing that an Art major won't necessarily help me get through school, and by the time I'm done I'll have loans. And loans must be repaid, etc. That applies to this news post because if I end up not going to school I may do a lot of freelance work. I realize I'm not the best artist in the world (by far), but if you want something cartoony and for cheap I may be able to do it. Much of this website also has me rambling, biographies of characters, interesting details about Lightfire, etc., , so there's some examples of my writing right there. There's more example(s) in my new Writing Portfolio.

I'm also thinking about internships, especially at Game Development companies or related companies, so if you need someone for that - you guessed it - e-mail me.

9/29/06 - Friday: "School"

Yes, I am back in school again. I am also taking a few more classes than I was last quarter that I was in school. That means everything as far as the website and other projects will take longer since I have less time for them each day. This probably means I won't be updating any of the comics for a while, but not necessarily. It all depends on my work load from day to day.

I am also already thinking about beginning work on a "Demo Reel", but in order to do so I need to develop some more professional skills. That will also take a long time, and will interfere with some of the other projects I have planned. However, on the bright side, I will probably show-case a lot of that pre-demo reel work on this website. So, as you can tell, it isn't ALL bad.

There is also a comic contest for World of Warcraft. If you are so inclined, I suggest checking it out. I'll probably submit a comic myself (I already started working on one). If you win their contest, you can get a Blizzard style iPod. Sounds good to me!

9/27/06 - Wednesday: "Patience"

For those who are still waiting for the next version of my Counter-Strike: Source map, there is good news and bad news. The good news is that I've been making progress and still intend to finish the map "completely" (whatever that really means). The bad news is you will have to wait an unspecified amount of time longer for this to be accomplished.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and you may have noticed there is something... missing? That would be the Forums. Nobody was using them, so I figured I'd use my database for testing some things. If you find a link for them somewhere, don't bother clicking it, because unless and/or until I replace the forums you'll just get errors.

9/23/06 - Saturday: "Blah"

I dunno, I just don't feel like making a lot of new comics right now. Maybe if I came up with a cooler comic idea or something I would. Or maybe if I just wasn't so lazy. Whatever.

Maybe if I could make the comics faster, then I would feel like working on it more. Although, I really liked the way Lightfire has looked so far, and I'd hate to sacrifice that just to get some more comics out faster.

It's just that, my webcomic feels kind of small with only 16 Lightfire comics so far. Hmm. I guess there's always the Gamer's Corner webcomic too, but it's not all entirely original like Lightfire since they're based off games and such.

I find it hard to update on a weekly basis (the longest I'd care to go between comics) at the current level of Lightfire, and especially hard to make two comics on a weekly basis so I can have one for Lightfire and one for Gamer's Corner. I don't want to turn it into a quickie five-minute-sketch comic either, so I guess until further notice, Lightfire and the Lightfire: Gamer's Corner webcomics are suspended.

9/21/06 - Thursday: "Procrastination"

I haven't been working on the Counter-strike: Source map I was working on so hard for a good week or two. This is because I know when I near completion of the map, I have a few problems...

1. I will need to find out how to get or make a space skybox. They had one of these for Half-Life 1 that was "built-in", but I found out they don't for Half-Life 2.

2. I will need to find a way to effectively cut off about 1/2 of the level, or specifiy that the map is for a large number of players (as it's quite a large map).

3. I will need to make a list of every texture, model, prop, etc. that I used in making the map.

4. I will need to figure out how to zip all the textures, models, props, custom skybox, etc., with a BSPzip thing - and after doing so having the map still be able to locate each one of them as needed. I have no idea what I need to do to do this, as the Hammer Editor Wiki (actually Valve Developer SDK Wiki, or something like that) didn't say much about that.

So yeah, I've just been putting it off because making the level can be fun, but doing all that jazz I need to do to get it all to work sucks.

I also haven't been updating the comics, I'm still trying to see if I get into school or not. If I don't, I will have more time for them, but I might get busy with other things anyway and still not update fr some time. Truth is, that despite my comics being okay, I'm not feeling very satisfied with them.

I'm not sure I'm making the type of comic I want to be, so I may have to look into that and change up the website. Then again, I was still thinking about changing it into a Game Review site instead, or something like that. In the mean time, I'm just going to procrastinate all of that some more...

9/2/06 - Thursday: "Portfolio"

I've created a portfolio so I can show it to a couple of schools for the admissions process. Feel free to check it out here, or click on the new link at the top of to page.

8/31/06 - Thursday: "Explanation"

So, I figured I'd explain why I labelled it for updating "randomly", and why there haven't been many updates etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. Well, I'm currently looking into schools for game design art, but haven't found anything that fits the bill yet . They either don't have the training I'm looking for, don't have the degree I'm looking for, don't contact me promptly, or have weird schedules. Many of them are (understandably) private schools as well, which means I have to be extra careful in my selection and research.

At this point, as I don't know exactly what's going to happen or where I'll be going, I figured I'd take some extra time off to straighten things out. I am also currently working on a Counterstrike: Source map project (by myself) so I can see how I like doing level design, and have an example to show picky schools (or possibly future employers). I plan to place it here in the downloads section when it's complete, although I may also be making a mod for the game. It all depends on time, motivation, and what I'm currently capable of. Once I get everything figured out, and when I feel comfortable with my map project, I'll be able to get better direction for this website.

In the mean time, I haven't gotten any new screenshots from the map, but if I finish it and set it up for download - I'll be adding some more images.

8/22/06 - Tuesday: "Random"

Well, I'm updating randomly now instead of "weekly-ish". Got a problem with that? Well, this is MY project, so that's just TOO BAD FOR YOU, MUHAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Oh right, I may also be shifting the direction of this website sometime in the next few months. We'll see...

I'd like to shift into a Game Review site, except there's just quite simply no good PC games out lately, so I'm not going to be playing too many new games to do reviews on. If you disagree with that assessment, I could give a crap.

I've got a map I'm working on that I hope to make available for download on this site as well, it's for Counterstrike: Source, but it's a space ship. Feast your eyes on... well I haven't named the ship yet... feast your eyes on IT here.

8/17/06 - Tuesday: "It's back"

Well folks, I've uploaded the new comic. I have also already started working on a comic for the Gamer's Corner section. That should be up in a couple days as well. As I've said previously, don't expect me to update both Lightfire and Lightfire: Gamer's Corner weekly. I will usually pick one or the other. Of course, I could always update daily if that's what you guys want, but that would mean less time to put into my art.

I am looking at some part-time jobs, game design schools, and other future career options lately, so hopefully none of that will get in the way of updates here. Regardless, I'm just happy to have finally completed a new comic after about a month and a half of no major updates.

8/15/06 - Tuesday: "Soon..."

I've got a new comic ready and I'll be posting it up soon - expect to see it in a couple days. (I'm taking the extra time to work on a few more comics so hopefully I'll have some backups when I can't spare the time to make more. Apparently other authors do that and it works well for them so I'm gonna give it a shot.)
